Piyu makes films about people trying to reach one another—speaking, missing each other, trying again. She explores connection and communication in an increasingly alienated world. It is meaningful when we connect with each other; the world feels softer then, less hostile. There’s a kind of tenderness she keeps looking for, a kind of love or innocence that used to feel closer.

She finds refuge in the filmmaking process —a space where communication feels intuitive and purpose-driven, where people are connected through time, labor, and imagination. Formally, she’s drawn to split screen and multi-channel work. She likes the feeling of watching two things at once, holding two realities at the same time – and finding truth not necessarily in the image itself, but somewhere in the distance between them.
